Gordon Ramsay surprises staff at Toronto cafe with unexpected visit

Staff at a Toronto cafe were shocked to see celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay breeze through the front door for a quick latte last week.

A visit from a celebrity of any kind is always a welcome surprise for a local business, whether it's Justin Bieber swinging by a Cambridge coffee shop or LeBron James stopping by a Mexican hot spot downtown.

On the other hand, some celebrity appearances are innately more anxiety-inducing than others, and Gordon Ramsay might just be the most stressful celeb of them all to serve.

That was no problem, it seems, for the staff at West Queen West's The Roasted Nut, a popular cafe that, in addition to serving up a comprehensive menu of java-based beverages, specializes in all manner of nuts, roasted and seasoned on the premises.

On Monday, Feb. 2, the cafe took to Instagram to share a photo with chef Ramsay after he popped in for an unexpected visit.

"Thank you CHEF!! We’ll Cashew Later," the caption of the post reads.

"So cool!!! Do you know why he's in toronto?" one follower comments. And, while the reason for Ramsay's stint in the city is unclear, the cafe shot back with a perfectly playful response: "to visit The Roasted Nut."

blogTO reached out to The Roasted Nut for more details on the visit, like what the celebrity chef ordered and, most importantly, whether it measured up to his standards, but, at the time of publication, has not received a response.

At the very least, I feel reasonably confident that he didn't slap two slices of bread on the face of any Roasted Nut team members and call them an "idiot sandwich" during his trip, because it feels unlikely that either party would stop to snap a photo after that happened...

They'd take the picture while it was happening, of course. That has "viral" written all over it.

The Roasted Nut is located at 768 Queen St. W.
