One of Toronto's coolest bars is closing after only two years

A truly one-of-a-kind bar in Toronto is about to close permanently after a short but sweet two-year stint.

Listening bars have been on the rise in Toronto over the past few years, from indie efforts like Rooms Coffee's 915 Dupont to heavier hitters like INK Entertainment's Vinny.

It makes perfect sense: food and music are two of life's most broadly appealing pleasures, so any combination of the two is bound to yield propulsive results.

One such listening bar concept that's really gotten it right amid the boom is Brockton Village's Sounds Good.

Opening its doors in early 2023, the bar's trendy mid-century interiors provided a blank canvas for nights of dancing and great tunes, paired perfectly with batch cocktails and a singular food program designed specifically to bolster the music.

Still, sometimes even great spots aren't destined to last forever, as Sounds Good owner Dylan McArthur recently took to Instagram to announce that, come February, the bar will close permanently.

"What took two long and amazing years to renovate and open became a reality in January 2023, and now after two unforgettable years of being open, it is with deep regret that we announce Sounds Good will be closing as of February 2nd," the caption of the post reads.

McArthur cites "licensing and capacity challenges" as the reasons behind the closure, explaining that "continuing operations is no longer sustainable in the current climate."

"Thank you to everyone who helped us along the way. It’s so hard to say goodbye, especially to all who helped build Sounds Good to what it is today," McArthur writes.

"Most importantly, to our incredible staff, who truly brought this special space to life, thank you for your commitment and all your hard work."

It's not the end of Sounds Good's reign in Brockton Village quite yet, though: you have until Feb. 2 to squeeze one last visit in. McArthur also teases that the wheels may be in motion for a "different project" in the near future.

According to the closure post, the team will also be planning a "special goodbye weekend," with a complete lineup of programming to say goodbye, with more details to come on Sounds Good's Instagram.

Sounds Good is located at 1756 Dundas St. W.
