7-eleven toronto closing

'Legendary' 7-Eleven location in Toronto closing permanently next week

It's the end of an era for Toronto residents with the late-night munchies, as an iconic 7-Eleven location plans on shutting down next week after 30 years of business.

The late-night pit stop for Big Gulps, taquitos and the viral Japanese egg sandwich on the corner of Spadina and College will soon be no more. According to the signage posted on the window, the 7-Eleven at 260 College St. will permanently close on Tuesday, June 30.

A Toronto resident who appears incredibly shocked by the news posted a video on Instagram, alleging that the store's employees were also caught off guard by the abrupt closure and haven't been provided any additional information.

"Very sad for these guys," reads the caption. "They work really hard and put up with a lot of sh*t working there…"

The convenient location of that 7-Eleven store and its proximity to Dina's Tavern (formerly Silver Dollar), El Mocambo and the general Kensington Market neighbourhood meant that many residents would often pop in before or after catching a show or meeting friends at a bar.

Loyal customers have flooded the comments section with supportive messages, even reminiscing about their first major purchase at this "legendary" location.

"Wow hahaha I bought my first burner phone from that 7/11 back in 2003 I think," one user wrote.

"That place supported me through every smoke break," another wrote.

"Red Bulls from this 7/11 got me through my bachelor's degree," read another comment.

Meanwhile, others have vented their frustration about the possibility that this corner lot will turn into, what else, condos, although nothing has been confirmed by the City at this time.

This appears to be all part of the North American operator's plan to close 645 stores in the 2026 fiscal year, which was announced back in April.

In May, the 7-Eleven location at Jane Street and Wilson Avenue shut down as well as the store at 24th Street and Lake Shore Boulevard West, leaving many hungry neighbours taquito-less.

blogTO reached out to 7-Eleven for comment.

For now, Toronto folks have a little over a week left to enjoy some Slurpees, chocolate bars and hot dogs before designating another convenience store as their new go-to for quick late-night bites.

7-Eleven is located at 260 College St.
