Family-owned restaurant in Toronto permanently closing after 22 years in business
A long-standing, family-owned restaurant in Etobicoke is gearing up to permanently close its doors on Wednesday following 22 years in business.
V's Schnitzel House, located near the corner of Browns Line and Horner Avenue, is an old-school restaurant known for its Eastern European fare, and, as its name suggests, its crispy schnitzels, which come in a variety of options from pork to pizza, and Italian to German.
All sandwiches are served on a freshly-baked Portuguese bun, and can be ordered with a plethora of sides, including V's signature potatoes, Greek fries, sauerkraut, or their legendary dill sauce. Other mains on their menu include cheesy chicken parmesan, beef goulash, cheese pierogies, and hearty halushky.
The business began as Liba's Bar and Grill in 2003, and the owner's daughter, Vlasta, officially took over in 2016.
In an unexpected turn of events, staff revealed earlier this month that the building housing the restaurant had been sold, and as a result, V's Schnitzel House would be closing its doors on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
"We are so grateful to have had 22 years in the business," Vlasta told blogTO.
"Both my kids grew up in this restaurant. Helping me along the way, when I took over. We have shared so many exciting family moments and grew our business to be something we are so proud of. The support means everything to us. Seeing the smiles on people's faces when they come to enjoy our food. It's truly been a wonderful journey we have had these last years."
As expected, dozens of regular customers poured into the comments section to share their heartbreak.
"One of Toronto's top spots to eat, gone but never forgotten. Thanks for all the years of great food and service," one customer wrote, while another added, "Oh nooo, this is so sad, best schnitzel ever!"
Despite its closure, the restaurant will continue to sell its dill sauce and offer catering through its website and Instagram.
