Toronto sports bar launches new challenge where you eat 6 lbs of ribs in under an hour

A Toronto sports bar just introduced a new eating challenge that'll have you slam six pounds of beef in under an hour.

While the Toronto Blue Jays look to extend their two-game winning streak against the New York Yankees tonight, fans can engage in a little bit of healthy competition themselves at Real Sports Bar.

"Healthy," of course, is used facetiously here, because this challenge is more likely to have you running home to put on your stretchy pants than running the bases.

Eating challenges are a kitschy — albeit hard to watch — offering at no small number of restaurants across the continent. Heck, there was an entire TV show devoted to them for over a decade.

For Toronto's part, though, the options for folks intent on exploring the absolute limit of their stomach capacities are decidedly limited. That's where Real Sports comes in.

Their recently revamped menu features, among the usual suspects of mozzarella sticks and chicken wings, the ominously named No-No, a heaping platter with 5.5 lbs of braised beef ribs, 1 lb of fries, 1 lb of coleslaw, 6 jumbo onion rings and 4 biscuits, you know, just for good measure.

The platter alone is enough to feed four large, hungry adults, and if that's your approach, you can secure your very own for $125.

For those unwilling to pay the monetary price, but who are willing to pay the eventual price of severe abdominal pain afterwards, you can also attempt the No-No Challenge, where, competing as an individual, you can get the entire platter for free if you can get it all down in 48 minutes.

Why 48 minutes? Real Sports Executive Chef Evan Tandy tells blogTO that it's "because there are 48 minutes in a basketball game." With the NBA season kicking off in just a few weeks, the timing couldn't be better.

While the No-No is a new offering on Real Sports' menu, it's not the first time the restaurant has had an eating challenge on its menu.

When the sports bar first opened in 2010, it offered the Hail Mary Challenge, which included 64 oz of prime rib, 1 lb of fries and 1 lb of coleslaw. According to Tandy, it was "not very successful for a variety of reasons."

Now, as the bar celebrates its 15th year in business with a rebrand, Tandy and the team have decided there's no time like the present to give the food challenge a second chance.

This time, with ribs, because, as Tandy says, "Who doesn't like BBQ ribs?"

He's got a point. I just personally prefer mine served in a volume that won't leave me in a permanent fetal position for days afterwards, but to each their own.

If you have an iron will and an even stronger stomach, you could, quite possibly, make history: Tandy tells blogTO that, to date, no individual has attempted the challenge yet, though three parties have ordered the platter.

I, for one, would like to see someone attempt it. Or, rather, hear that someone has attempted it. I honestly don't think I could watch.
