Another day, another beloved business closing in Toronto.
This time, the wave of closures has hit a long-standing Annex institution, By The Way (BTW), a colourful restaurant that has been serving up Mediterranean plates, breakfast and more near Bloor and Bathurst for decades.
BTW's team took to their social media pages to share the news over the weekend, much to the sorrow of faithful customers.
"After over 40 years in business, and serving and meeting so many wonderful people, we and our family felt that it was time to start a new chapter," explains the post.
Written by owners Amir and Ruth Benedikt, the post goes on to thank the Annex community, staff members, and the many loyal customers for supporting the business throughout the years and making it a community stalwart.
"It's the people who made By The Way a successful business and our home here on Bloor Street. Please accept our deepest gratitude for welcoming us into the community and for all your support," they continue.
And, as has been the case with all of the shuttering businesses in Toronto, the city is quite sad to see this one go.
Comments on the post reminisced about By The Way's amazing patio, friendly environment and great food, and wished the Benedikts luck on their next adventure.
With a closing date of August 31, BTW's post states that management will update customers on what to expect in the coming weeks. It also asks for patience as the business begins to wind down operations.
By the Way now joins the graveyard of other shuttered Toronto restaurants, like the now-gone Mattachioni East, La Bartola, Rosalinda, Banu, Runway06, and more.
Now is the time to swing over to By The Way at 400 Bloor St. W. to share some memories and say your final goodbye.
We will miss you, By the Way!
