Toronto restaurant and nightclub suddenly shuts down just months after opening

A Toronto restaurant and nightclub has closed down permanently, despite opening just a handful of months ago.

Though the Entertainment District's Marked — a South American cuisine venture from Forthspace Inc., the people behind Coffee Oysters Champagne — was only open for about 4 years, it attracted enough of a following for its sudden and mysterious closure in 2024 to make a notable splash.

The sign came down, and vague allusions to "something exciting" coming soon were posted to their Instagram, but Marked fans the city over were left to wonder what exactly would become of their beloved home base for bottomless mimosas.

A few weeks, a new sign and a $300,000 investment later, Forthspace Inc. unveiled Runway06, the day-to-night restaurant-and-nightclub concept intended to fill in the gap left behind by Marked.

Though conceptually murky, the restaurant served a comparable menu to that of Marked, and would transform into a nightclub complete with costumed go-go dancers and laser displays on weekend evenings, all wrapped into a vaguely travel-themed package.

In its early days, it even got a shoutout from Vanderpump Rules stars Jax Taylor and Tom Schwartz, who stopped by on a visit to Toronto.

The restaurant went on to hold lively events, brunches and club nights for around eight months before suddenly, and seemingly without warning, closing its doors for good following a last service on Sunday, May 25, leaving its many fans scrambling for answers.

Forthspace Inc. founder and owner, Sanjay Singhal, tells me that the closure — however sudden it may seem — was actually a carefully thought-out decision to better grow the group's other concepts.

"As of May 26th, 2025, Runway06 has officially closed its doors. While this marks the end of an exciting chapter, the team at Forthspace is now fully focused on our flagship venue, Coffee Oysters Champagne/a toi," says Forthspace Inc. founder, Sanjay Singhal.

"Our love for speakeasies has always been at the heart of what we do. For the past six years, a toi has proudly held the reputation as Toronto’s leading speakeasy, often becoming the very first hidden gem many locals and visitors discover. We’re excited to continue evolving and growing this space—deepening its legacy while creating unforgettable, immersive experiences," he adds.

Sanjay expresses gratitude to all of the patrons and fans who supported Runway06's run in the city — however short — and says he looks forward to welcoming everyone at Coffee Oysters Champagne as they enter the next chapter.

Runway06 was formerly located at 132 John St.
