If scarcity breeds demand, one hush-hush sandwich business in Toronto, operating out of a popular nightlife spot, is taking precisely the right approach to draw a crowd.
Sandwich shops and party bars are really going hand in hand in Toronto these days, aren't they?
While the much-loved Uncle Pete's enjoys its second chance out of Little Italy's Track and Field Bar, over in Kensington Market, another between-buns business has been making a splash slinging sandos at Supermarket.
Officially opening on July 4, 2026, Mig's Sandwich Bar has taken over the kitchen at Supermarket every Thursday through Sunday, opening at noon and wrapping things up just before the bar starts to swing at 9 p.m.
Helmed by Miguel Arguello, the eponymous Mig, the pop-up sandwich shop comes from auspicious beginnings. Arguello has had a hand in no small number of Toronto ventures, working in kitchens at Seoul Shakers and Hanmoto before becoming part of the founding team of 1211 and DAM Sandwiches.
Later, when 1211 closed, he opened Sad Songs Cantina, his first solo venture, in the same Bloor West space, before it was forced to shutter after a landlord dispute.
For his next act, Mig's, Arguello has gone all-in on sandwiches. More specifically, steaming, toasty sandwiches served on pillowy and featherlight buns.
The tight menu features just five options, all of which can be supplemented with a side of fries. Classics like chicken parm and meatball are accompanied by more singular offerings, like the French Picnic, with brie, green apple, orange marmalade, onion jam and arugula.
It's a perfect pair for the punchy, no-frills live music venue and bar, and one that, evidently, has been paying off in spades over the past month.
You can try Mig's Sandwich Bar for yourself at 268 Augusta Ave.
