A Canadian steakhouse that made a Michelin-worthy splash in its hometown is officially opening its first-ever Toronto location.
If there's one thing that remains true about the Toronto food scene, it's that the city loves a steakhouse — and luckily for carnivorous tourists and residents alike, we've got no shortage of swanky spots serving up filets, fish and fine wines.
Whether it's more unique, independent spots like Linny's or tried-and-true chains like Chop, a hunk of meat cooked to perfection and served amid opulent environs always scratches that itch — which is why the news of a new one coming to the city is always exciting, even if competition is steep.
The latest to join the herd is Vancouver's Riley's Fish and Steak, which, after achieving a tidal wave of success (including a Michelin Guide recommendation) back home, is gearing up to take over the space left behind by long-vacant contemporary The Shore Club.
Headed up by Glowbal Restaurant Group, the West Coast hospitality group that also brought Black + Blue to the city, the new steakhouse will adapt the sensuous two-storey, 9,000 sq. ft. space into something at once lush and approachable, promising sunset hues, curved architectural elements and tranquil ambiance.
Of course, the way a restaurant looks is only secondary to the food they serve, and, if their Michelin nod wasn't evidence enough, Riley's Fish and Steak has that covered, too.
You can expect to dig into classics like Oysters Rockefeller and Seafood Towers, new additions like tableside Prime Rib and Lobster Pot Pie and their signature suite of sides and starters, on top of their premium cuts of Canadian steak.
Surf and Turf may have just officially become the unofficial motto for the year ahead. It is for me, at least.
Before you jump to make your reservation, though, you've still got a while to wait before Riley's Fish and Steak Toronto opens its doors.
Currently deep in demolition and renovations, the steakhouse is slated to open in early 2026.
On the bright side, the city has no shortage of swanky steakhouses to fulfill the craving in the meantime. Dare I suggest checking out the new-and-improved digs at Harbour 60 or Jacobs & Co.?
