Here's how the price of eggs compares in Canada versus elsewhere in the world

For many Canadians, eggs are staple items on their grocery list — but how do egg prices in Canada compare to those in other countries?

We have conducted several grocery comparisons across different countries, looking at the cost of food in Canada versus places like ItalyMalaysia, the Philippines, and Australia. However, rather than comparing the prices of various grocery items, we're focusing specifically on this versatile source of protein.

In 2024, we tracked the price of eggs in different countries. In Canada that year, a carton of one dozen large eggs from Great Value costed $3.97 CAD at Walmart, while free-range eggs costed $7.04 CAD. A dozen free-run eggs by GoldEgg were being sold for $7.04 CAD.

But those prices have since changed.

This year, the price of a dozen large eggs from Great Value has dropped by five cents to $3.93 CAD, while the price of GoldEgg free-run eggs has increased by four cents to $7.08 CAD.eggs

To compare the price of eggs in Canada, we checked online supermarkets in various countries. Prices will vary depending on what's available at the time, as well as the number of eggs in each container. The 2024 calculations were made using the conversion rates at the time, and the same goes for 2025 — so, fluctuating currency values may also have some effect.

Here's how much you can expect to pay for eggs in different countries in 2025 compared to 2024:
