Tim Hortons scraps non-dairy milk surcharge across Canada

Tim Hortons has finally ended its surcharge for non-dairy milk alternatives for its beverages across Canada.

Following in the footsteps of other major coffee chains, a spokesperson for Tim Hortons confirmed that it would no longer charge for non-dairy substitutes across its line of beverages.

"We can confirm we do not charge a surcharge for a guest to have a non-dairy alternative with their beverage," a rep for the company wrote in an email.

The Canadian chain added that while it has never had a surcharge for non-dairy alternatives in its tea and coffee, it dropped charges for substitutions in its espresso-based beverages and Iced Capps in January 2025.

However, with over 4,000 locations across Canada, it will now be easier and (most importantly) cheaper for guests to substitute regular milk for their preferred alternative for some drink orders.

The chain has now joined the list of major coffee chains to drop surcharges after Starbucks and Good Earth made the change in late 2024.

Earlier this year, Tim Hortons was just one of the large chains named in a class-action lawsuit filed in Canada over the surcharges, alongside Starbucks and Second Cup.
