Viral Dubai chocolate bars recalled in Ontario due to contamination

If you've been stocking up on sweet treats ahead of the holidays, you may want to check your cupboards, as a chocolate bar sold across Canada has been recalled due to possible salmonella risks.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall notice for Oasis Treasures Pistachio Dubai Chocolate. The recall impacts 340g bars with the UPC 8 02962 40190 7 with the lot code BB 25JL25 , which have been sold at Showcase stores across the country.

According to the notice, the chocolate bars have been sold online and in the following provinces and territories: Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan and Yukon.

The recall was triggered by test results on the chocolate. No illnesses have been reported in Canada due to consumption of the product.

Canadians who own the chocolate bars have been advised not to consume them and instead either throw them out or return them to the store where they were purchased.

A spokesperson for Showcase and the manufacturer Palm Bites Canada said there had been a voluntary recall on a "small batch" with the lot code BB 25JL25.

"At Showcase, the health and safety of our customers is a top priority, and we are working closely with authorities to monitor the situation closely," the company said in a statement.

"Consumers who have purchased the 340g Large Pistachio Dubai Chocolate Bar with the lot code "BEST BEFORE 25JL25" can return to the store for a full refund. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and continued trust."
