Kiin Cafe Toronto

Top Toronto restaurant opens a new restaurant inside their restaurant

One of Toronto's top Thai restaurants is introducing a new concept that is literally a restaurant in a restaurant.

Celebrated chef Nuit Regular, and business co-owner and husband, Jeff, have just soft-opened Kiin Cafe inside their flagship restaurant, Kiin.

Expanding the operating hours of Kiin's Adelaide dining room, the dynamic duo – who are also behind Pai, now shuttered Sabai Sabai and Sukhothai, and the food at Selva – has introduced a separate and menu filled with traditional Thai breakfast and lunch dishes, unique Thai coffee and espresso drinks, and fresh homemade mini-doughnuts until 3 p.m. every day.

Whether a Thai food enthusiast or curious diner, the menu promises items such as Jhok (Thai Rice Congee), Guay Jub (Thai-style Rice Noodle Soup), and Khai Gratha (Thai-style Pan-Fried Eggs).

It even has popular classics like Khao Mun Gai (Hainanese Chicken Rice), a dish that Jeff loves sharing with blogTO because it's the dish he used to take his son to have for breakfast every day on the way to school.

Then there's the Guay Tiew Rua Sen Lek (Boat Noodles), which is Nuit's favourite.

"When I was in high school, there was a cafe close by that I used to love going for boat noodles for lunch with my friends," she shares with blogTO. "I fell in love with its complex, unique and aromatic flavours. Serving it at Kiin Cafe evokes so many joyful memories."

There are popular snacks like Patong Gho (Thai crullers) and Khanom Krok (Thai Coconut Puddings). Those will be complemented by fresh fried-to-order mini doughnuts that are tossed in freeze-dried mango powder or cinnamon sugar.

The latter, Jeff notes, are an ode to the signature treats of now-shuttered Little Nicky's Coffee, which he shares is something the Regulars miss having with their morning coffee.

To drink, Kinn Café will offer beverages such as Cha Chug (Thai pulled milk tea), Owliang (Thai coffee with condensed milk), Nom Chompoo (Thai pink milk), as well as Instagrammable numbers like a Pandan-Butterfly Pea Latte and homemade sodas including Pomelo Marmalade and Lychee.

"This menu is very nostalgic to me and my team," says Nuit. "When I eat these dishes, I'm instantly transported back to Thailand. These are the foods that Thai people eat for breakfast and lunch every day…

"As an ambassador of Thai cuisine, I love being able to share authentic Thai experiences… [and] Kiin Café is an opportunity for me to show Toronto another aspect of the Thai culinary culture."

Coming soon, the daytime operations will also include a Thai-inspired afternoon tea menu and grab-and-go lunch options.

But rest assured, fans of Kiin can still expect the Royal Thai-inspired menu it's been drawing attention for on Wednesdays to Sundays for dinner only.

Kiin Cafe is located at 326 Adelaide Street West and operates daily beginning at 8 a.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. on weekends. The concept officially launches May 1.
