There's now a giant supersonic fighter jet sitting in an Ontario park

An Ontario park just got a giant fighter jet replica, set to debut to the public this week.

A full-scale replica of the legendary Avro Arrow CF-105 (RL-201) was permanently installed at Mississauga's Paul Coffey Park this summer, paying homage to the advanced fighter aircraft designed and built in the suburb in the 1950s.

The City of Mississauga, in partnership with the Malton Business Improvement Area (BIA), plans to debut the replica fighter jet during an official unveiling and commemorative outdoor ceremony taking place this week in the park's Flight Garden area.

The massive replica has been turning heads since it was first installed back in June, with Mayor Carolyn Parrish announcing back in June that "Our Avro Arrow is finally installed," adding that "This project reflects the dedication of so many individuals and organizations who came together to celebrate an important chapter in our city's story."

In its day, the Avro Arrow was the largest supersonic jet of its kind, spanning 55 ft. wide and 72 ft. long.

The advanced aircraft was the first designed and built with technology like digital computers and computer numerical control machining, and boasted then-cutting-edge features, like computer-controlled navigation, weapons release, electronic countermeasures and jamming technology. 

The project was ultimately scrapped on February 20, 1959, a day which became known as "Black Friday" in the Canadian aviation industry.

The Avro Arrow replica will be publicly unveiled on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at Paul Coffey Park, 6990 Goreway Dr., Mississauga, Ont.
