After a cold and dreary start to May, Toronto will finally see summerlike temperatures and sunny skies just in time for the Victoria Day long weekend.
According to Environment Canada's 7-day forecast, temperatures are expected to rise significantly ahead of the long weekend, with the humidity making it feel even hotter than it actually is.
Following a cold and wet start to the week, temperatures are expected to rebound on Friday, when Toronto is set to experience a high of 21 C. Warm temperatures will persist throughout the weekend, with the daytime high expected to reach 23 C and 21 C on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
On Monday, daytime showers might put a damper on any potential outdoor plans you have on your day off, but the warm wave will stay put, with a high of 25 C and a nighttime low of just 15 C.
Looking ahead, The Weather Network's forecast predicts that temperatures will reach a peak on Tuesday, when Toronto is expected to see an afternoon high of 25 C, which will feel closer to 31 C when factoring in the humidity.
However, the hot temperatures will come with a potential trade-off, as meteorologists predict a 40 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon, and a 60 per cent chance of light rain in the evening.
Temperatures will likely cool off by next Wednesday, when Toronto is expected to experience a daytime high of 15 C.
If you're curious about how the rest of the month will play out weather-wise, the Old Farmer's Almanac provides an early glimpse of what we can expect. Between May 26 and 31, scattered thunderstorms are expected to arrive in southern Ontario, along with warm temperatures.
According to the long-range forecast, the first week of June is expected to kick off on a cool and rainy note. Between June 9 and 18, more thunderstorms and warm temperatures will likely sweep in, before sunny and cool conditions take over from June 19 to 21.
The last week of June is expected to bring even more thunderstorms, followed by sunny and hot conditions. Overall, the region's average temperature in June is estimated to be around 16.5 C, which is 1 C below average.
Total precipitation levels are expected to reach 110 mm, which is approximately 30 mm above average.
So, while the sunshine might not stick around for long, we can at least look forward to a much-needed taste of summer this weekend before cooler and stormier conditions return later this month.
