ttc streetcar diversions

TTC streetcar network will be a total mess for months

Several overlapping route adjustments will make getting around on the TTC streetcar network a total nightmare in the coming months.

The transit agency will be introducing yet another major streetcar diversion on Monday, March 2, due to ongoing track work at the Bay and College intersection, joining a handful of recent route changes rolled out in late February to accommodate other repair and construction projects.

Effective Monday, the 506/306 Carlton route will reroute onto Dundas St. between McCaul and Parliament streets due to TTC track work.

The rerouting is necessary to accommodate the replacement of sewer infrastructure on College St. between Yonge and Bay streets, along with the renewal of TTC streetcar tracks and upgrades to overhead power lines on College and Carlton streets between Bay and Church streets.

The TTC and City anticipate that this work and the resulting streetcar diversions will be necessary from March through December, with a brief construction pause from mid-April to July for the FIFA World Cup.

In addition to the streetcar rerouting, the 506B/306B Carlton bus replacement will operate between Spadina Station and Gerrard St. E. at Broadview Ave.

The TTC states that eastbound replacement buses will operate via Spadina Ave., College St., University Ave., Gerrard St. W., Yonge St., Carlton St., Parliament St., and Gerrard St. E. Westbound replacement buses will detour via Gerrard St. E., Parliament St., Carlton St., Yonge St., Wellesley St. W., Queen's Park Cr. W., College St. and Spadina Ave.

The route changes come on the heels of another round of streetcar service changes introduced on Feb. 23. TTC streetcars are already diverting on other portions of the 501/301 Queen, 503/303 Kingston Rd., and 504/304 King routes.
