The work week is already off to a bad start for many Toronto and GTA commuters, as brutal GO Train delays this morning brought rush hour to a crawl.
GO Transit says delays were due to an ongoing signal issue at Union Station.
"Repair personnel are working on the issue, but there may be delays of up to two hours. There may be trip cancellations and modifications until the issue is fixed," stated the notice on their website.
Impacted lines included Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, Milton, Richmond Hill, Kitchener, Barrie and Stouffville.
Disgruntled riders have been stuck on trains for hours and, naturally, they sounded off on social media.
One rider, stranded for 40 minutes now, criticized the public transit service for its consistent daily delays, saying there have been delays "almost every single morning for the last week!"
@GOtransitMI you guys need to figure your shit out. there’s been delays almost every single morning for the last week! we’re currently 40 mins delayed. unacceptable.

Another rider currently held up at Bloor Station isn't hopeful that the TTC will provide smoother service if they ditch the train for the subway.
Go train is busted at Bloor Station. I just know that if I get off a) the Train will miraculously start working and b)there will be a delay on the TTC. @GOtransitKT

The signal delays are putting a dent in many a morning. One rider shared on Reddit that they had been stuck for 50 minutes and counting. “My Barrie line conductor said they might turn it around and go back to Downsview,” they wrote.

Another commuter was stuck on the train for half an hour with no updates or information from Metrolinx or the TTC.
.@GOtransit @TTChelps would be so helpful if you gave us info on other platforms. I was stuck on a GoTrain for 30 mins with no communication as to what is going on. And I had already tapped on, couldn’t find a customer rep to refund because Presto machines don’t have function😵💫 pic.twitter.com/7FbYd5iieV

The small silver lining: Go Transit's Service Guarantee policy means anyone who experienced a delay of 15 minutes or more will be credited back the fare paid.
