go train delays union station

Toronto commuters stuck for hours after major GO Train delays

The work week is already off to a bad start for many Toronto and GTA commuters, as brutal GO Train delays this morning brought rush hour to a crawl.

GO Transit says delays were due to an ongoing signal issue at Union Station.

"Repair personnel are working on the issue, but there may be delays of up to two hours. There may be trip cancellations and modifications until the issue is fixed," stated the notice on their website.

Impacted lines included Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, Milton, Richmond Hill, Kitchener, Barrie and Stouffville.

Disgruntled riders have been stuck on trains for hours and, naturally, they sounded off on social media.

One rider, stranded for 40 minutes now, criticized the public transit service for its consistent daily delays, saying there have been delays "almost every single morning for the last week!"

Another rider currently held up at Bloor Station isn't hopeful that the TTC will provide smoother service if they ditch the train for the subway.

The signal delays are putting a dent in many a morning. One rider shared on Reddit that they had been stuck for 50 minutes and counting. “My Barrie line conductor said they might turn it around and go back to Downsview,” they wrote.

Another commuter was stuck on the train for half an hour with no updates or information from Metrolinx or the TTC.

The small silver lining: Go Transit's Service Guarantee policy means anyone who experienced a delay of 15 minutes or more will be credited back the fare paid.
