ttc subway closure this weekend

Important stretch of TTC subway will shut down for this entire weekend

TTC subway closures this weekend will cut off access to the westernmost stations on the TTC's Line 2 Bloor-Danforth on Saturday, Sept. 6 and Sunday, Sept. 7.

The transit agency plans to shutter service along Line 2 from Kipling to Islington stations for the duration of the coming weekend, a stretch of approximately 1.4 kilometres that includes vital connections to GO Transit's regional network and Mississauga's transit provider, MiWay.

The coming outage is the latest in a series of scheduled service disruptions planned to accommodate ongoing maintenance and upgrades — in this instance, work on the line's signal system.

Weekend closures have become something of a theme on the TTC in 2025 as the transit agency aggressively attacks its work backlog, requiring frequent weekend and early weeknight closures to complete state-of-good-repair work.

In early 2025, the transit agency announced that it would require a staggering 38 full-weekend closures this year alone.

During this latest disruption, passengers relying on this stretch of subway will be herded onto shuttle buses to cover the final western leg of Line 2.

Despite the lack of subway service, the TTC has informed passengers that they will still be able to access Kipling and Islington stations to purchase or load fare cards and connect to surface routes.

Regular subway service will resume in time for the start of the morning rush on Monday, September 8, at 6 a.m.
