Canadians confused after Canada Post mistakenly sends dozens of repeat delivery alerts

Several Canada Post customers were left confused after a technical glitch caused dozens of delivery notifications to flood their inboxes.

Normally, Canada Post customers who sign up for delivery alerts are notified when their package has arrived. This time, however, a technical issue triggered duplicate emails that continued to be sent long after the delivery was complete.

Frustated customers took to social media to complain about the issue, with some reporting that they received up to 50 emails notifying them that their package had been delivered. One customer shared a video of his email inbox to demonstrate just how many notifications he received.

"Canada Post really wanted me to know my one single package was delivered," he wrote on X. "Fifty emails later, I'm starting to think their server is stuck in Groundhog Day."

Another customer said she continued receiving emails notifying her of the delivery 10 hours after her package was delivered.

"Canada Post, tell me why I've received THIRTY-TWO identical delivery notification emails from Canada Post in the last 10 hours since my parcel was delivered? Please make it stop!" she stated.

In an update the following day, she said the total of emails had reached 50.

"Did someone fall asleep on the 'send' button… what is going on?" she asked.

We reached out to Canada Post, and a spokesperson confirmed that they're experiencing "a technical issue."

"We are currently experiencing a technical issue with our notification system, which may result in customers receiving multiple duplicate notifications," she stated.

She explained that they acted fast once they identified the problem.

"We were able to disable notifications as we work as quickly as possible to resolve the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank customers for their ongoing patience," she stated.
