Popular Toronto sandwich shop shutting down after 10 years

A popular Toronto sandwich shop is closing the doors on its last remaining location in Toronto after keeping the neighbourhood fed for a decade.

Despite being on the Toronto food scene for nearly 15 years — a lifetime for a restaurant — the love for Porchetta & Co. has been unwavering over the years, even amid a sandwich boom that brought some serious competitors in recent years.

Founded in 2010, the restaurant expanded to a major sister location on King West in 2015, and another in the Exchange Tower three years later. Serving up hearty-yet-quick sandwiches with a decidedly gourmet slant is their modus operandi, and, suffice it to say, they've found their following in the well-to-do young successfuls of the city.

It goes without saying, though, that the past five years have changed the landscape of the city (and the world) forever, and the casualties of several major businesses along King West, like Majesty's Pleasure and Casa Mezcal, are perfect examples of that.

Now, Porchetta & Co.'s King West location is joining the ranks of fallen soldiers, as the chain took to its Instagram to announce its impending closure.

"After 10 years at our 545 King West location, it’s finally time to say goodbye," the caption of the post reads.

"Operating under the conditions of the past 5 years has been challenging to say the least, and we have made the very difficult decision to move on."

It's not goodbye forever for Porchetta & Co., though, as the restaurant confirms it'll be keeping its Exchange Tower location open for business, and even teases a new location coming in the future.

"With change comes new opportunity," they write. "We will soon be announcing a new location that will help us drive the business forward in a more sustainable and focused way."

Their last day of service is June 1, so you still have time to grab one last crispy chicken or hot pastrami sandwich before you have to venture into the Financial District for it.

Porchetta & Co. is located at 545 King St. W.
