407 etr rates

Rates to use the 407 toll highway in Ontario are about to increase

Starting Jan. 1, 2025, Highway 407 ETR will be rolling out a new rate schedule that includes additional toll zones, increased fees, as well as new vehicle classifications.

Instead of the four zones that currently span the highway's 108 kilometres, there will be 12 zones in total starting in 2025, which will allow the 407 ETR to set different toll rates for each section to better manage traffic volumes and flow.

The highway operator also announced that there will be new vehicle classifications, with rates that aim to better reflect each vehicle's impact, including motorcycles and medium-sized vehicles.

Most personal vehicles — including cars, vans, small pickup trucks, and SUVs — will fall under the light vehicle category, while larger pickup trucks, SUVs, trucks, and vans towing a truck will fall under the medium category.

Here's how different types of vehicles will be charged on the 407 ETR in 2025:

  • Motorcycles — 0.8x of light vehicle rate
  • Medium — 1.5x of light vehicle rate
  • Heavy single — 2x of light vehicle rate
  • Heavy multiple — 3x of light vehicle rate

The roll rate increase for light vehicles will range from three to 14 cents per kilometre, depending on the time of day and zone you travel. In addition to the new toll rates, fees will be increasing for the first time in five years, including camera charges, account fees, and transponder lease fees.

With all the increases, you can expect a monthly bill increase of about $8 if you're a personal transponder customer.

In January 2025, an annual transponder lease will cost $29.50 plus tax, and additional transponders can be leased on the same account at a discounted price of $11.95 plus tax per transponder.

If you want to calculate your tolls before driving on the highway, you can use the 407 ETR's online toll calculator
