The best new restaurants in Toronto did the unimaginable and opened during a series of lockdowns. Newly arrived in the city include a buzzy ramen shop and a spot for high-end Chinese.

Bar St. Lo

Bar St. Lo

There’s something fresh at St. Lawrence and its not the produce. This Montreal-inspired restaurant from local brand Collectif Nude opened near the historic market this summer with shareable plates and terrasse vibes.

Gia

Gia

Leafy greens and vegan meatballs are on the menu at this restaurant on Dundas West. Owners Jenny Coburn and Stacey Patterson replaced the pescatarian-based Ufficio concept with an Italian menu that’s a little more plant-based.


Oji Seichi

Oji Seichi

If you’re craving ramen in East Chinatown, this playful brand is making its own noodles from scratch in the basement. Oji Seichi also has shrimp sandwiches and junmai sake made in collaboration with Izumi on the menu.

MIMI Chinese

MIMI Chinese

The team behind Sunny’s Chinese launched this spinoff in Yorkville with a few of the same dishes from the pop-up, plus a few newbies. Eat through Sichuan, Shaanxi and Hunan provinces with dishes like chili sea base and four-foot-long belt noodles.

Right down the street from Sunny’s is this grown up version of College Street’s Giulietta. Chef Rob Rossi is serving coastal Italian dishes in Yorkville with a sleek restaurant replicating 12th century focaccia recipes and platters of the daily catch.

Dundas West’s new bistro is giving us the French fare and wine list we didn't know we needed. Stock up your pantry but only after indulging in a blue cheese wedge salad or some steak frites. The kitchen stays adding delicious new dishes to the menu, just to keep us on our toes.

The Wood Owl

The Wood Owl

Situated right next door to its saloon-style sister The Wren is this new addition to Danforth East. This more upscale sibling bar and restaurant features a rotating menu of dishes made with seasonal ingredients, a stellar wine list and cocktails.

Myth

King West got this decked out Greek restaurant, ushering in summer with grilled octopus and flaming saganaki. Fun fact: this new iteration of Myth is a revival of the original Greektown club of the same name.
