Sleepy Pete's

Sleepy Pete's, a breakfast and lunch grab 'n' go spot in Kensington Market, brings easygoing simplicity to the neighbourhood.

Nestled amongst crowds of visitors hunting down over-the-top food spots and vintage stores, you'll find the humble Sleepy Pete’s.

Lovers of Seven Lives will recognize the plant-filled hub.

Tucked under a vibrant yellow awning on Kensington Avenue, Sleepy Pete's goal is to consider not just tourists, but workers and residents of the market, too.

It's no surprise that their mission is to honour the market folk, as they happen to be market folks themselves.

Owners and staff Diana Monitel, Sean Riehl, Pedro Balafox and Karen's smiling faces greet their crowds.

Sleepy Pete's is the newest creation from the team behind the wildly popular taco spot, Seven Lives, located right across the street.

When business partners Diana Montiel, Sean Riehl, and Pedro Balafox moved their beloved taco joint into a bigger space, they were left with a memory-filled empty spot they weren't quite ready to part with.

When they asked themselves what they wanted to do next, the business partners realized they were craving something with a slower pace.

And nothing makes you think 'slow-paced' more than a silky fried egg on a sunny morning.

Though short and simple, Sleepy Pete's menu offers up classic breakfast and lunch sandwiches – “with elevated, original twists,” shares co-owner Diana.

For those early market mornings, the must-haves are covered: grab a traditional Egg & Sausage sandwich ($8), featuring a crispy egg and chicken breakfast sausage, in a hot and honey sauce.

Oblige your sweet tooth and grab Diana's personal favourite, the Monte Cristo ($9.50), going half-savoury with ham and Jarlsberg cheese and half-sweet with blueberry jam and egg-dipped grilled brioche.

House-made scones in plain and seasonal fruit flavours ($4.5) are available, with rotating jam flavours.

Come lunchtime, go for a heartier bite and grab their Fried Chicken Sandwich ($9.50), coated in hot lemon pepper sauce and topped with tangy pickles on a buttery biscuit.

For those who don't call Kensington Market home, Sleepy Pete's is still a must-visit spot.

The casual, cozy hub is looking forward to participating in the popular Pedestrian Sundays that Kensington hosts every summer, where they'll be serving up off-the-menu specials those days only.

Fresh fruit juices ($5), iced teas ($4) and Reunion Coffee-based drinks are readily available.

The gang shares that they're "looking forward to a summer of doing what they love," in a neighbourhood that has so clearly and wholly loved them back for the past decade.
