Contest: Win Tickets to see Patrick Wolf

Posted by Tim / May 9, 2007

Patrick Wolf is opening for the two sold out Amy Winehouse shows later this week. But on Friday, May 11th he's the headliner at the El Mocambo and we have two pairs of tickets to give-away for the show.

Want them?

Just make a comment below stating what you think has been the best live music performance in Toronto so far this year and why. We'll then choose what we think are the two best or most creative responses and award you the tickets.

Make sure to include your email in the comment form so we can contact you to let you know you've won. The contest is open until we put a comment below announcing the winners. Good luck!

Patrick Wolf performs May 11th at the El Mocambo, 464 Spadina Ave. Doors at 7pm. Show at 8pm

That would have to be Klaxons at Lee's Palace. That was their first night of the tour and they were unstoppable. The crowd was very into it, the energy was amazing and the whole night was unbelievably fun and crazy. A perfect ending for the first long weekend of the year!!

I would have to say The Roots concert during CMW at the Docks!!!! It was live, so much so that I think I am going to have to check them out again at Fort York in July. These guys went non stop for two hours playin many of their old and new tracks. The energy was euphoric. They are deffintly a show not to be misses!!!

im looking forward to waiting hours outside in line for this show but i will say this years best performance so far goes to rheostatics @ horseshoe. i was quoted in this (http://blogto.com/music/2007/04/what_the_rheostatics_mean_to_me/) stupid article, isn't that enough? its the last quote, also the longest, also the best. im pretty sure iv won this contest already. also other reasons include that dave bidini morphed into a cerberus (see proof: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/160/439543284_177fafc5a2.jpg?v=0 ). im pretty sure ?uestlove didn't do that, no offence "huny".

El Perro Del Mar. I have never seen Toronto crowds go so quiet, never expected such a delicate album would sound so perfectly live. She's such a unique artist and she made 300 people feel very warm on a very cold winter day (sorry for the cliche, but I really couldn't express the feeling of getting goosebumps from that voice).

The best concert this year was The New Pornographers at Nathan Phillips Square on February 3rd. It felt like it was minus 20. The band's space-heaters kept going out but that didn't stop them from plowing through their tight set. And Kathryn Calder played the keys with mittens. MITTENS! I didn't even know that was possible.

All that New Pornography sure warmed our hearts on that cold February night.

The best concert I've been to so far this year was the Great Lake Swimmers at Trinity Church at Avenue and Bloor. The venue was perfect for the music, a little slice of the old world surrounded by big-city buildings, which is also how I see the music they create. The stained glass windows behind the band were lit up by lights from the nearby Four Seasons hotel, and the standing bass echoed off of the vaulted ceilings. Perfection.

wow, look at everyone suck up for free tickets! It feels like a highschool essay contest where the winner gets a free tour around queen's park.
also, all of you are wrong. the best concert so far this year was the 3rd night of the zoobombs at the comfort zone. Amazing opening bands(action makes, woodhands,dd/mm/yyyy, key witness, KOTV) and the sweaty mosh pit going by mid set of the zoobombs was great! broken glass everywhere, people falling all over the place, jumping to what essentially sounds like gibberish sung over stonesy rock. say what you will about the music, but the live show was to die for!

I know I'm not eligible, but I just had to chime in and say the best show of the year was The Books at the Opera House about a month ago. It was part music performance, part poetry reading, and was the single-most mind-blowing concert I've ever been to. The next best thing is probably their Playall DVD, maybe out it's out already?

Only downside: the merchandise table was selling Books branded oven mitts, which seemed like a wicked buy until I found out they were 25 dollars . . . each! I'd sooner grab my casserole with bare hands than drop 50 bucks on oven mitts, no matter how awesome they are.

Lots of very good reviews here. My personal favourite was The Old Soul at Dakota. All very simple - it was FUN. And lots of it.

Wow, bestest Toronto show of the past 5 months. I guess it would have to go to Bloc Party. Although being at Kool Haus and having to deal with poor acoustics, Kele and the rest of the crew put on a heartstopping set. Kele was as charming as ever, and the material from A Weekend In The City shines in a live setting. They also get a thumbs up for inviting Kevin Drew to sing back up on So Here We Are. That dude is EVERYWHERE!

These are all really great answers we wish we could give all of you tickets to see the show. But we said we'd only choose two winners so here they are: DA and Stefan. Winners will be contacted via email very soon.
