Toronto hair salon Civello on Queen remains open

A Toronto hair salon and spa chain is set to permanently close its long-standing downtown location after nearly 30 years in business.

The hair salon remains open!

Civello, located at 269 Queen St. W., is one of many salons founded by beauty industry leader and master hairstylist Ray Civello, with other locations in Toronto's Rosedale and Uptown neighbourhoods, as well as Oakville and Vancouver.

The salon has been offering a variety of beauty and wellness services for the past few decades, including body treatments, facials, massages, lash extensions, makeup applications, manicures, and brow tinting.

In a shocking announcement on the salon's social media pages and website, owner Ray Civello revealed that the company's Queen Street location would be closing its doors at the end of the year.

"We are deeply grateful for the unwavering loyalty and support you have shown us through your patronage at Civello Salon & Spa," Civello wrote.

"We know that the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and successive lockdowns significantly altered the salon landscape not just here, but on a global scale," the announcement continues.

"As a result, the exceptional experience that has always been integral to our heritage was effectively disrupted, and the new 'normal' that was ushered in has had a far-reaching impact on both salons and stylists."

In order to rededicate the salon's efforts, the Queen West team will be relocated to the company's other locations.

"So sad to hear this news! I've been going to the Queen Street location since 2008," one customer wrote.

"Truly the end of an era. My time at Queen Street left me with a huge block of core memories and lifelong friends," another person said.

Stylists at Civello Queen Street Salon and Spa will officially power down their blow dryers on Dec. 24.
