DineSafe TorontoThis week on DineSafe, one of the places where I had obliviously enjoyed a meal was actually sporting a conditional pass. Gulp. Though the fact that it had boasted an impeccably clean (no pun intended) DineSafe record beforehand does provide me with some solace, especially considering the repeat offenders who often make it on this list. This week's conditional pass handouts were spread from downtown to way up north, nabbing offenders on Queen, George, and Bloor, plus one at York University and a Subway chain in North York. Here are some of the notable yellow passes that were handed out around Toronto this week.

I'm so glad that Fresh is being written up in this week's report! I used to be a frequent customer at their Crawford location until, I ordered one of their wraps and noticed it STUNK like cigarettes. It was inedible, the entire wrap was essentially an ash tray. Turns out that the cook who put it together had a lengthy smoke break and didn't wash his/her hands before they made my food. Needless to say the meal was free - but I've never looked at their so-called healthy food the same way.

That Mangia Mangia Mangia place is a disaster. 5 Conditional passes AND a Closure in the past 18 months. They've only passed one regular inspection in that entire time!

I had a similar experience at Fresh! My burger bun reeked of cigarettes, clearly from someone smoking and not washing their hands when they came back to the kitchen. Really disgusting.

I did what the taxpayers want. They want Subway. That’s it. They don’t want Fresh. I was out in Scarborough over the weekend. People came up to me and said they want Subway. That’s it. It’s the taxpayers. The taxpayers want, I was elected on Subway. They want Subway. I was out on Saturday, people want Subway. That’s it. It’s all Subway. It’s all about Subway. All about Subway. So, it’s the taxpayers that elected me to get the Subway in and that’s what we’re going to do. It’s like winning an election. So if they voted me in, that means I don’t win an election? It doesn’t make sense.

Pretty sure the inspector only brought Yellow cards with him this day.

Not at all shocked about Leslieville Cheese Market. Saw a mouse trap out left out and haven't been able to go back since.

everyone's a critic of fresh in this city. I've never had a problem there. But I have noticed that, from an outside perspective (I work in service), they have the most stuck up and demanding customers in the world. sucks about that place getting that rating. I'll be back..

I agree. Smokers have NO RIGHT to be working in the food industry. If I was the owner, they would never get hired in the first place. They are walking contagion when it comes to food prep.

I'm reading the summary of infractions and they don't reflect the number of minor/significant/crucial infractions listed (inflated.) What and I missing and how does the tally work?

I used to work at Fresh and I find it hard to believe they got a yellow card. It was one of the cleanest kitchens I've seen in my years in the restaurant industry. I've worked in places much worse and seen them get green passes. Also keeping smokers out of the industry is ridiculous. Keeping idiots off the Internet seems like a better idea.

Isn't it better to see a mouse trap, than not see a mouse trap?
