The photos of the week: March 14-20

Posted by Derek Flack / March 20, 2011

CN Tower CloudsThe photos of the week collect each of the editor-selected photos of the day into one post for a contest to be decided by our readers. Sponsored by Posterjack, the photographer whose image receives the most votes will be awarded with a voucher code for a 24"x36" poster print of their work.

All the rules and fine-print can be found in the original announcement post on the blogTO Flickr page. One thing to add, however, is that the voting period ends at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, after which the winner will be contacted with the good news.

For those photographers whose images are featured below, please feel free to give us a little information about your shot — i.e. where and when it was taken — in the comments section. Who knows? Maybe your description will sway voters in your favour! Lead photo by yedman.

The first photo looks like Cloud City from The Empire Strikes Back!

I like these photo's congrats to the all

If I may, make a slight suggestion...I enjoy this section, but it seems there are always photos every week of the CN tower, lakeshore, and ttc. I know that these images are "iconic" for us, but can we try to have a week without them? Just 1?
Perhaps themed based (funny signs or cool parks) might work. Anyways great work to all.

I have to agree with Jake above, though I do enjoy this contest each week... perhaps a theme (or anti-theme) each week would mix things up a little and draw out some more photographers and more subjects?

Great batch this week. Iconic imagery or not, they're creative and thats what I like to see - different ways of looking at the city we experience every day. Thats what keeps things fresh for me.

I took the photo of the plane landing at the Island airport. I was on the ferry to Wards Island as the sun was setting behind heavy clouds rolling across the city. I heard the plane approach and knew where i wanted to capture it, shooting wide to put it just above the monster cloud with sunbeams poking out I had been admiring for the ride over.

OK. I don't normally comment on this sort of thing, but I love that first image of the CN tower pod floating in the clouds.
