No Pants Subway Ride 2010

Posted by Jerrold Litwinenko / January 11, 2010

No Pants TorontoThe No Pants Subway Ride 2010 edition took to the TTC yesterday. Organized by Improv in Toronto, the bare-legged, goosebump-generating "flash mob" experience sees riders casually whip off their pants, revealing their tighty-whiteys, bikini briefs, lacy panties, and boxers... and take the train - much to the awe/delight/fright of unsuspecting passengers.

blogTO contributor Paul Flynn happened upon a number of pantless participants taking part in the 3rd annual winter event, and sent us a link to some photos he took. blogTO Flickr pooler SasiShan also dropped a few in our pool this morning. Looks like a lot of (shivering) fun, doesn't it?

The phenomenon has become a worldwide event (see BBC video), with transit users in 43 cities taking part this year.

Update (January 15th): video!

he he... I did this yesterday but didn't listen to the directions properly and didn't get off at college, so I ended up riding all the way to eglinton as the only pantless person on the train! :S I was wandering the platform in my panties going 'huuh?? where is everyone??' LOL!

I question the "effectiveness" (for the lack of a better word) of this event since it was widely publicized (even radio - 680news - had information every hour on the hour leading up to the event).

It sort of lessens the impact imho.

What may have been quite funny, hilarious and even gut busting turns into something more watered down and barely smile-worthy at best and eye-rollable at worst.

That said, I know it's hard nowadays to keep a lid on such events.. I guess it's the price we pay for having expedited access to all information.

Its funny- but its also Toronto.
Everyone takes one look and goes back to their Metro paper.

Barf! I think it's disgusting! I don't want to see someone else's shit streaked underwear, curly pubes, or jiggly ass in my face as I commute. So glad I don't ride the TTC as much anymore!

C'mon! I think it's amazing. No pants! That's hilarious! How much more interesting is this than a regular day on the subway?

Hah people here are quite the criticizers, especially on completely off track things. (Oh the perks of the rigid attitudes).
Regardless, this was a hilarious event to be a part of and was a great deal of fun. I look forward to Improv's next assignment.

This is almost as pathetic as those idiots who dance to no music on the subways. Please consider not doing this ever again as a lot of people cringe and facepalm when they encounter your insignificant attention-whoring circus. I'd be less repulsed if perhaps this was for a notable cause...

It has nothing to do with rigid attitudes, Paige. I'm a visual artist and I have no hang-ups about the nude body as an art form...BUT in a subway car with children and families however, I find it inappropriate!!

It has nothing to do with rigid attitudes, Paige. I have no hang-ups about the nude body but this is just a bunch of attention seeking, group thinking whitebread twits who think that underwear is edgy. Yawn yawn yawn.

Toronto people are so boring that once in a while they do these "krazy" things - lol! This is pathetic. What is the point and purpose of this event?

Yet another piggyback day late dollar short Toronto does it after other cities do it thing.

Hey Improv Toronto clowns - perhaps you could execute original ideas in your "missions" - that would actually be improvisation.

Wow! I like the idea, but hasn't it been done to death? We need something new! New! NEW!!!

I don't understand, Improv Toronto. This has nothing to do with improv. I know that improv is tragically unfunny, but this is taking it to a grosser, saggier level.

With all the shutdowns under Adam Giabrone's watch I'm surprised they found a subway that was even running!

'Think of the children?'

It is not like they were completely naked. They had underwear on. The same amount of coverage as most public pools and beaches. I fail to see how this is inappropriate or a violation of any kind. If anything it is an act of free will that we should all be embracing.
But then again, after checking this blog daily, I dont think there is anything that 'jack' has not criticized.

I agree Torontonians are boring like sh8t but I am not and I would have chosen more better looking guys with legs to wear real under wear instead of long ass shorts below the knee because that's cheating and boring and dry.

PS I looked better but.......then again trontonians don't recognize and they are oppressively jealous.
