Kevin Lai sent us a link to a new Google Maps mashup he and his friend have been working on. It pulls in listings and photos from Toronto MLS and plots them nicely on a slick Google Maps interface. It also lets you easily search by neighbourhood.

The site is called Housing 123. Now if there was only some way to figure out what others plan on bidding....

(We've also added it to our Housing section in our Google Maps Mashups Compendium)

This mashup is pretty much the best idea of all time for anyone searching for houses! The MLS site is notoriously sloppy and I always need Google Maps open in another tab to figure out where properties are located. What an excellent combo...

Brilliant mash-up!

There's a house for sale on Toronto Island... I didn't know anyone actually owned the property there in that way...

I love it !!! Now if only the public version of MLS was upgrated to include all the listings that MLS agents have access to...

Now this is a good mashup. Sadly, when you click on the listing, you're still taken to the pretty mediocre and un-interactive mls.ca website. Still, a good start.

This is fantastic. I'm looking for a place right now, and one of my frustrations is that i don't have any clue which neighbourhood I want to be in. This at least gives me an idea of what neighbourhoods cost.

Wonder if they can add in the rentals that are listed on MLS too...

Great site! Finally someone thought of doing this. I thought mls would have done this by now. It's annoying entering every address into a separate window when property searching. Now only if they could put up the locations of properties which the agents don't list the addresses...

The speed at which this site is being updated is only beaten by the speed at which I can search for houses in different neighbourhoods. The best mash up out there. I hope google buys them out for more than youtube.

Yeah, this is a great site, for even sales reps like myself, but I have found lisitngs on the MLS, and on our MLS system that do not appear on the map - is this an updating issue?

If you like this site you should also check out http://www.realestateplus.ca/ it has additional property info and demographic information about each neighbourhood.

THIS SITE IS A JOKE! HOW DO YOU SEARCH BY NEIGHBOURHOOD? A COMPLETE AND UTTER WASTE OF TIME.....MAYBE THEY SHOULD GET SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO DESIGN A PROPER WEBSITE!

Steve on October 10, 2008 at 9:31 PM

I have to agree with Mark. The new site is terrible. I could find home a lot easier and quicker with the old site.

The site is ridiculous. How the heck am I supposed to remember or somehow know the street or postal code of the house I want to look up???? What a bloody joke. Go back to the old site where you could search by area or at least offer both options.

Could the site be any slower? It's doesn't take too much insight to forsee that an interactive map would require more system resources. Poor planning on the part of CREA, at the worst possible time in the Real Estate Cycle
