Capture the Hog: Smiles For Free on Gladstone

Posted by Tanja / January 6, 2007

20070106-CTHmural.jpgIt's been a while since I posted a Capture the Hog photo, but this grey Saturday morning really called out for some sunny vintage imagery.

This one was taken on the corner of Gladstone & Queen West. Anyone know anything about the history of this mural?

Unfortunately, no. Though I've gone and taken a <a href="http://flickr.com/photos/sookie/154513541/"; "target=_blank">pic</a> too and noticed a small sign in the shot pointing to icarus designs. Their website mentions nothing so it's still a mystery to me.

Thanks for that lead though, Sookie. The photo is on their website's contact page so I think I might just have to send off an e-mail.

The location of Icarus designs used to be a Portugese fish market. Thus, the big happy fish.

I believe it was painted by Derek at Yonge Street Tattoos...he mentioned that while tattooing me years ago.

I'm not sure what the origin is, but I made out with a girl who lived there once. The basement was really creepy with dripping water and puddles with bloated teddy bears lying face down in them. I'm not sure, but I suspect foul play.
