vidTO: Zanta's Plea to the Chief of Police
Love him or hate him, David Adam Zancai and his Zanta character are here to stay and he's not giving up on his quest to gain visitation/custody rights to his daughter.
While entertaining to some, Zanta's antics do seem like a bizarre form of public protest given the circumstances (he's been called aggressive and mentally unstable). That said, there's been no record of Zanta assaulting or threatening anyone.
In his latest video, he tells us that he's tired of being persecuted and harassed by the police. He's been removed from countless street festivals, parades, barred from the CNE, and is not allowed in Yorkville for one year. He takes his plea to the top by asking Toronto Police Chief William Blair to get the fuzz off his back. Does Blair cruise YouTube? Not likely, but I suppose Zancai hopes to garner more attention and rally the support of online fans and supporters.

Poor Zanta.
You'd think the cops' time would be better spent running after bike theives than harassing a street performer. He's like the cowboy in Times Square, only with more clothing.
Does anyone know why the cops are always on him?
I'm not a lawyer or a police officer, but based on my limited knowledge it doesn't seem to me that Zanta is breaking any laws. Going shirtless in December, doing pushups on a sidewalk, and repeatedly saying "yes" may be odd, but are these actions grounds for arrest/charges/bannings? What constitutes a public disturbance?
Yes, he is annoying and in your face. He needs to grow up and try working for a living.
He scares people and physically intimidates people. Older ladies are terrified.
No wonder he is banned.
He does not just do pushups on the sidewalks I have seen him doing push ups in Yorkville on the ROOF of a taxi.. and NO the taxi driver was not laughing he was afraid.. he also does pushups in the middle of the street with traffic having to steer around him. He also walks into traffic and generally is intimadationg to the people around him.
He certainly seems very threatening when he is barking at you as you cross the street. Zanta isn't a hero.
To the people who find Zanta intimating: you have a deep seeded insecurity that stems from your inherent fear of shirtless men. Embrace the male form. Start by hugging your shirtless male friends. From there, work your way up until you're comfortable hugging homeless transients.
About the pushups on the taxi: did you happen to see the string of events that led up to that particular incident? If you had, you would have realized that the taxi driver was upset only because Zanta wasn't doing one handed pushups as he had originally requested.
To Kate: he's not barking at you. My, don't we have an ego? His brain functions on a level that we normal people can only dream about. Thus, he must maintain several layers of complex thoughts, and this is reflected in his ability to carry on multitple conversations in his mind - ocassionally these thoughts are expressed externally via "barking," as you call it.
Wake up folks. Zanta represents everything that we yearn to be and should be regarded as a municipal treasure.
One love.
Brian, Rob and Kate,
You guys are as gray and dull as the concrete sidewalks.
"Old ladies are terrified"??
Yeah and alot of old ladies are terrified of alot of people.
As for traffic steering around him - so what - are you guys traffic cops?
God, just when you think this city is getting interesting these 3 remind me that we're still a city of middle-class wimps.
I'm sure you guys love Dundas Square.
I have a hard time understanding how people support Zanta. Have you ever had to ride on the subway with him? So annoying. Aren't street performers supposed to be entertaining?
As much fun as it would be to live in a world where your version of entertaining is the go-to, I think I'll have to stick with the world where we're all allowed to have different opinions.
Zanta is a friend to everyone. He is amusing and there for anyone in need of a smile. Zanta doesn't deserve to be banned from anywhere. Zanta must live on.
wow people. like zanta once told me. society is FUKED. How can you think his annoying with mental problems. Have you taken the time to actually talk to him and maybe see his none of these things you say? Be more opened minded and stop critisizing those around you, go look at yourselves in a mirror first and see what the hells wrong with you instead of talkin trash about others. Whenever i see him i take my time and atually listen to what he has to say, others on the TTC might look at me weird but whatever, I can care less.
and like justin said. ya old ladies are scarred of anything. prolly a damn fly. ! so calmmm down
=)
