Chernobyl Anniversary

darlington06.04.26
Today marks the 20th anniversary of the nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl in the Ukraine. With the price of fossil fuels rising daily there are rumblings that more nuclear plants will be constructed or refurbished within Ontario in the coming years.

I understand electrical power as a necessity to modern life but I lament commercials for Hummer H3s and box-stores already pushing air conditioning units for another hot summer. Instead of constantly increasing our energy consumption levels, maybe we should attempt the novel idea of making due with less?

I think that is the best idea i've heard all day. Every person can make small changes in their daily lives, such as using energy efficient light builbs in their homes, using a set back therostat, and car pooling to work (if possible).

Two things necessary for people to conserve in a meaningful way:
1 Charge the real market price of electricity
2 Make current consuption info (in dollars) available to consumers. by meter or internet.

That way people can make informed choices.
