The Omega Centre Bookstore

Posted by / March 23, 2005

Surrounded by skyscrapers and caught in gridlock, it can be hard to find spiritual escapes in this city. I am very grateful to have discovered The Omega Centre Bookstore, which has been serving Toronto for many years but took me quite some time to stumble upon.

Omega is a fantastic place to find information about spiritual and holistic events and classes in Toronto. Often, special guests are right in the store and there is always a calendar of community activities available to customers.

Located on Yorkville, Omega is an unsurpassed resource centre. No matter what your beliefs might be, you're bound to find something at Omega. Although it is aptly called a bookstore, the merchandise is widely varied. Here, you will find candles, jewellery, art cards, a multitude of crystals and, of course, books.

The staff are knowledgeable and the prices quite reasonable. With soft music playing and a hint of incense in the air, the atmosphere is beyond relaxing. Give yourself time to enjoy it...a typical visit for me lasts at least an hour and I have yet to come away empty-handed.

Looks like the URL for the Omega Centre Bookstore is a dead link.

As far as I know, the Omega Center is now closed. This is unfortunate. It was a great resource for spiritual wisdom.

The only comparable bookstore I know of in Toronto is the Eternal Moment on Bloor.

There is a new alternative & metaphysical bookshop in downtown Toronto quite similar to Omega Centre though smaller. ORIGO BOOKS, http://www.origobooks.com/ ... Lots of different topics and products I couldn't find anywhere.

I was lucky to have worked there for 4-5 years. The staff were like family. Omega shut down largely because they couldn't compete as an indie store against the likes of Indigo, Chapters, World's Biggest Bookstore, etc. This is why supporting independent businesses are so essential. We were all so saddened. It was an end of an era for sure.

I was a frequent visitor to the Omega Bookstore in Yorkville and was very sad when it closed. I spent many lunch hours browsing and purchased many items over the years. The reason for my google search was I was hoping they had moved to a different location, but now I know from the previous comment they are no longer in business, how sad. I guess I'll check out the Eternal Moment on Bloor, hopefully that will be there.

Hi,

I'm not sure if you will check this but I am currently writing a story on spiritual bookstores in Toronto. Is there any way that I could ask you a couple of questions about Omega and the bookstores that are still in Toronto? I am a journalism student for Ryerson so this is an assignment for my feature class. Anytime this week if you have 10 or 15 minutes. I would really appreciate it.

Thank you,
Brittany
