Radar: What's in the Box, 2nd Annual Boxing Day Special at the Garrison, 2001 A Space Odyssey in 70mm at the TIFF Lightbox & More

MUSIC | What's in the Box: Night 3 w/ Do Make Say Think, Ruby Coast, Pick a Piper
This whole week, the Drake Hotel is holding their annual year-end wrap up of some the best live bands straight from their stage to your ears. The festival is five nights, presented by five groups, with five bands performing each night, for only $5 each night. For those not mathematically inclined, that works out to be only one loonie to see each band, and that's nothing to sneeze at. Tonight's lineup is brought to you by No Shame, and features indie-rock pros Do May Say Think, as well as Ruby Coast, Pick a Piper and more special guests.
The Drake Hotel (1150 Queen Street West), 8pm $5 19+

MUSIC | 2nd Annual Boxing Day Special
Perhaps malls and markdowns aren't your thing this Boxing Week, and if that's the case, consider finding the bargain of all bargains in the shape of live music at the Garrison. After last year's success, they have brought back the Annual Boxing Day Special, a week-long festival and food drive showcasing some of the best in rock/punk/indie/pop in the intimate setting of this Dundas West spot. Tonight's bill includes Persian Rugs, Random Order, Sing Leaf and more.
The Garrison (1197 Dundas Street West), 9pm $5 + a non-perishable food item 19+

FILM | 2001: A Space Odyssey
Stanley Kubrick's 1968 masterpiece, 2001: A Space Odyssey is playing tonight at the Bell Lightbox in the way this classic film should be consumed; in its original, 70mm format. At the dawn of its creation, this science fiction work of art was ahead of its time in both concept and visual effects and for over 40 years it has stood the test of time amidst spoofs, satire spin-offs and references. Its time to flashback to the future through Kubrick's eyes.
Bell Lightbox (350 King Street West), 6pm & 9:15pm $15, $12 for students
