Live music picks for WEDNESDAY AUGUST 10 through TUESDAY AUGUST 16, 2011.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 10 / TONKAPUMA / THE BOAT / 158 AUGUSTA AVE / $5 / 19+
When April Aliermo and Daniel Lee aren't making 60s-inspired doo-wop rock with their band Hooded Fang, they're creating riots on the stage as Tonkapuma. Full of spunk and energy, the duo produce shoulder- and head-shaking beats in surf-rock style. Fellow locals The Soupcans, The Connoisseurs of Porn and Michigan's Forget The Times join the line-up.

THURSDAY AUGUST 11 / BRUCE PENINSULA / LOWER OSSINGTON / 100A OSSINGTON AVE / $10 / 19+
Jennifer Castle holds your attention with earnest songs and open acoustics, inspired by surreal dream-folk, and song-writing that capture things in our simple lives. Bruce Peninsula co-headlines the show - part of SummerWorks Music Series - and it will be impossible not to think of their showcase as more than just a concert, but as a special and joyous celebration following Neil Haverty's comeback from health issues. Bruce Peninsula's new sophomore LP Open Flames comes out on October.

FRIDAY AUGUST 12 / UNTOLD CITY PRESENTS / THE GARRISON / 1197 DUNDAS ST W / FREE / 19+
It's been a true summer this year, with scorching heat and sticky weather. But it wouldn't be a true summer without free concerts, so Untold City offers a free summer show at The Garrison featuring DJ Golden Boy, Topanga, Uncle Bad Touch, Young Rival and Montreal baroque-pop band Parlovr.

SATURDAY AUGUST 13 / MEMORY TAPES / WRONGBAR / 1279 QUEEN ST W / $12 / 19+
New Jersey's Dayve Hawk, better known as Memory Tapes, creates surreal and evocative music. Accompanied by a band in the live setting, Hawk recreates his keyboard/organ-driven tracks with guitars, turning his bedroom-style songs into dance tunes. Memory Tapes plays in support of LP Player Piano.

SATURDAY-SUNDAY AUGUST 14-15 / THE ALL CAPS! ISLAND FESTIVAL / TORONTO ISLAND / 443 LAKESHORE AVE / $12-15 / ALL AGES
Take the ferry to Toronto Island this weekend and catch a great set of musicians, readings, BBQ and a lot more sweet summertime fun at The ALL CAPS! Island Festival. On Saturday, the Island stage welcomes Moon King, Julie Doiron, Evening Hymns and more. And then on Sunday, DD/MM/YYYY, The Wooden Sky, Rich Aucoin and others conclude the Island party festivities with electro fuzz and rock blitz.
