Morning Brew: The mayor defends his subway vision, Doug Ford refuses to apologize, new multi-use trails in the works, and Wiarton Willie says early spring
Rob Ford defended his vision for the Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown LRT at an outdoor press conference yesterday at â where else? â Eglinton and Victoria Park. Ford said he "campaigned on building subways and I stand behind that commitment 100 per cent, because it is the right thing to do." Probably the best part of the impromptu press conference was Ford's reference to the gridlocked street behind him as traffic passed by with little impediment (see below).
Doug Ford's response to the city's integrity commissioner's recent findings? "Horseshit." Integrity commissioner, Janet Leiper, accused Ford of violating council's code of conduct after Fair Elections Toronto spokesperson Adam Chaleff-Freudenthaler issued a complaint that Ford threatened him at a July council meeting. Apparently Ford sent a written apology afterwards that Leiper says doesn't count because Ford wasn't really apologizing for anything. Don't you hate those apologies? "I'm sorry that you're upset..."
City staff were tracking Toronto's existing major multi-use trail network last summer in hopes of seeking out new trail connections. Now they've got a draft proposal of the new network, which they're soliciting public feedback on this coming Monday.
