Meet the new Toronto podcast exploring what it really means to travel

It's hard to find someone who doesn't love to travel. This is especially true in a city like Toronto, where newcomers, locals, and tourists alike are constantly swapping stories of epic adventures from around the world.

It's pretty easy to guess why we love travelling so much, but have you ever wondered why exactly it means so much to us humans? What is the purpose of travel? What does travel say about the human condition, and how is that reflected in our decisions?

It's about time we took a more in-depth look at the multi-billion-dollar travel industry — and there's one Toronto podcast doing just that.

Y We Travel

Y We Travel is a brand-new podcast from Toronto Pearson that dives into why we love to explore the world. Beyond pretty sights and good food, it taps into the connections and emotions behind travel trends. Featuring top writers and thinkers, the podcast invites listeners to reflect on the deeper motivations driving our journeys and how those get reflected across the industry.

It's a way to understand our place on this giant planet we call home, offering a fresh take on catching flights.

The podcast is co-hosted by New York Times bestselling author and former foreign correspondent Eric Weiner, who uses an intimate interview style, and Erica Vella, a former journalist and award-winning podcast host, who expands on those conversations. Both connect personal stories to current events, data points, geopolitics, and even seasonal routes.

What shapes our travel

The print version of the series first appeared in The Walrus, and has a huge roster of guests including celebrity chef and restaurant owner Roger Mooking, Survivorman star Les Stroud, and Melanie Vogel, a woman who walked the entire Trans Canada Trail. Think of it as an Anthony Bourdain-style interview mixed with Vogue Travel.gtaa

In June, the series won a 2026 National Magazine Award in Canada, and it was named best print communications campaign at the 2025 Airports Council International (North America) Marketing and Communications Awards.

Next stop: Y We Travel

Equally desirable for jet-setters, industry workers, and dreamers, Y We Travel is the place to analyze the motivations, emotions, and trends that shape our journey. That's everything from the hottest destinations to the most popular routes, and even airport food.

It's time to explore the world — no suitcase needed! Catch Y We Travel biweekly on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Amazon Podcast, and get ready to uncover the true meaning behind travel.
