If a small town Ontario road trip is on your docket this upcoming March Break, then keep reading.
This week-long break gives us all a chance to hit pause and shake off the fatigue of everyday routines — no more meal preps, early bedtimes, and rushed morning coffees. With all this time off, why not load up the car and explore the province without racking up too many kilometres?
Here are five small towns in Ontario you can explore over the March Break.
For the unversed, this Ontario town is home to Arrowhead Provincial Park, where you can glide on a 1.3-kilometre skating loop lit by glowing fire torches that winds through the forest. Sounds scenic, right? Add it to your list!
But, if skating isn't quite your thing, or if you're simply craving more adrenaline, then head to Hidden Valley Highlands for skiing and snowmobiling.
You can also wander through the Forest of Light at Sandhill Nursery, a winter walk featuring interactive, illuminated displays through the woodlands. Believe me when I say that a March Break trip to Huntsville is the perfect way to squeeze every last drop of winter wonderland magic before the season wraps up.
If you're looking for a balanced mix of relaxation and adventure, Prince Edward County delivers. For some fresh-air fun, explore the trails at Sandbanks Provincial Park, and if there's still snow on the ground, snowshoe your way through the banks for a true winter experience.
Beyond the outdoors, the County is known for its wineries and cozy cabins, making it easy to kick back, sip something local, and carve out a little time for yourself.
Prince Edward County is equal parts unwind and explore, and it was recently named one of the Best Places to Go in 2026 by the U.S.-based luxury travel magazine, Condé Nast Traveler.
If maple season is your thing, you're in luck. Warkworth is starting off March Break on a sweet note with its annual Warkworth Maple Syrup Festival on Mar. 14 and 15. Here, you can expect all the classics: sugar bushes, taffy on snow, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and other maple-flavoured treats.
You can also explore the city's downtown core and stroll through the Millennium Lilac Trail to get some steps in while you're on a little staycation.
Warkworth offers a wholesome, small-town charm that feels like it stepped right out of a postcard.
Calling all art lovers, it's time to channel your inner artist. A visit to Kingston (which, we recognize, is more of a small city than a town per se) warrants a stop at The Screening Room Movie Theatre, where you can catch films across various genres in a cozy, classic-cinema setting, conveniently located in the city's downtown.
While you're there, make it a point to walk through and shop in Martello Alley, a hidden alleyway-turned-art gallery where you're bound to find a unique souvenir to hang in your living room.
And since maple season is officially upon us, you can expect more themed fun at the Maple Madness at Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area. Sweet treats and art escapes? Yes, please.
Stouffville's old-school charm draws road trippers year-round, but it's especially inviting during March Break. For a little adventure, visit Bruce's Mill Conservation Park and test your bravery with zip lines, treetop trekking, and aerial courses.
While you're there, don't miss Stouffville's own Maple Syrup Festival, which is on all month long in March. Round out the day with a stroll through the Hallmark-style downtown core and settle into a cozy café for a bite.
These charming small towns in Ontario are waiting to be discovered this March Break. Which one will you explore first?
