ontario cabin stays airbnb

You have to hike through the woods to access this secret Ontario cabin

The Ontario town of Creemore is home to a secluded cottage you can rent if you're looking to add a little adventure to your next winter staycation.

Described as a "hike-in cabin," Lavender Landing is nestled on 240 acres of private land and offers an escape from the fast-paced city life and has been a labour of love years in the making.

"The property has a long history," Hayley Visentin, the owner of the Airbnb rental, tells blogTO.

Visentin explains that the previous owners were an elderly couple who gradually purchased portions of the 240 acres. The couple eventually built a cabin on the plot of land — one that Visentin has since transformed into Lavender Landing.

Visentin says the property has existed for decades with limited upkeep.

"We've been working on restoring everything and building up the farm infrastructure since we moved here," she says. "Lavender Landing was in very rough shape when we first saw it – it could either be left to rot or we could fix it up and create a peaceful place for family and friends to escape."

Visentin chose the latter.

Since the cabin is an off-the-grid property, guests must trek up a one-kilometre-long trail with a 75-metre elevation gain to access it.

"Guests park, pack up their supplies in one of the transfer options we provide — an ice fishing sled, large camping packs, or a wagon in summer — and hike out to the cabin," Visentin says.

The owner confirms that the cabin still feels safe and private, despite being off-grid and deep in the woods.

"We make sure that we have thought of everything for a comfortable and private stay," Visentin says. Her engineer husband has ensured the cabin runs on solar-powered batteries, with a backup propane generator available if needed.

So what amenities can guests expect? Pretty much everything you'd find in a traditional cottage experience: high-speed Wi-Fi, lights, outlets, a wood stove with stacks of firewood, and solar- and propane-powered amenities like an incinerating toilet, a bar fridge, and a BBQ.

Due to the cabin's remote location, there is no running water on site however drinking water is provided by the hosts for the duration of the stay. And speaking of water, there's also a 53-foot waterfall located right on the property that guests can explore.

Guests must book a minimum two-night stay at Lavender Landing, with nightly rates starting at $273.88 plus applicable taxes and fees. The cabin is available to book directly through Airbnb.

As Canadians choose domestic travel over international trips, cozy cabins are becoming the new norm. In fact, Lavender Landing recently made Airbnb's list of Canada's "most wishlisted cozy winter cabins," so weekends are likely going to book up fast.
