ontario provincial park torch-lit trail

Torch-lit trail at Ontario provincial park open for just two more weekends

If you missed out on any outdoor winter activities in December, there's a second chance to make the most of the season.

Sibbald Point Provincial Park is back with its Fire and Stars hike, a two-kilometre loop that takes guests along a torch-lit path on the Maidenhair Fern Trail in Sutton West, one hour north of Toronto.

Now in its second year, the Fire and Stars hike offers guests the option of a self-guided walk or a guided tour, which includes a Discovery Interpreter who will answer questions and share information about the illuminated trail.

Those interested in the self-guided walk should note that the trail is open on select days from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Guided walks start promptly at 7:00 p.m. on select days, and participants are encouraged to arrive five to 10 minutes early. However, if you're running late, you can still join in at any point by heading onto the trail and looking for the Discovery Interpreter holding a lantern.

While the walk itself is free, guests must reserve a spot for the guided tour in advance. Reservations open five days before each walk date and can be made through the Ontario Parks website. Guests should also note that a $21 per vehicle fee is required to enter the park.

The Fire and Stars hike takes place on Jan. 16 and 17, and Feb. 14 and 15, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The hike is held on the Maidenhair Fern Trail at Sibbald Point Provincial Park, located at 26071 York Rd. 18 in Sutton West, Ont.
