air transat toronto cancun flight diverted

Flight forced to turn back to Toronto due to mysterious 'odour' on plane

Just two days after an averted strike, an Air Transat flight to Cancun was forced to divert back to Toronto due to a mysterious "odour" on the aircraft.

Shortly after taking off at Toronto Pearson Airport at 5:45 p.m. on Dec 11, Flight TSC426, an Airbus A321, turned around and landed back at the airport at 6:39 p.m., flight tracking data shows.

In a statement to blogTO, the airline explains that crew detected an odour in the cabin which forced the diversion. The airline did not elaborate further on the source of the odour.

"As a precaution, emergency services met the aircraft upon landing as per regular airport procedures," an Air Transat representative tells blogTO.

Passengers hoping to enjoy the sun and sand in Mexico on Thursday night, unfortunately, have to spend a day of their vacation near the airport.

Air Transat tells blogTO that passengers were accommodated with hotels for the night, and the flight is rescheduled for Friday.
