New Ontario trail has a four-storey boardwalk to explore the forest

Ontario has a brand new greenway to attract nature lovers, and it's unlike most of the recreational trails anywhere else in the GTA. It only recently officially opened to the public, and if you haven't checked it out yet, you may want to before summer's up.

Stretching over 300 metres through the forest, the Clifford Perry Boardwalk — officially named Dave Kerwin Trail located at Environmental Park — in Newmarket, Ontario provides an elevated, four-storey path to walk or cycle on, set high above the ground with incredible views of the surrounding greenery.

The boardwalk isn't just a straight shoot, either — it winds its way through the trees, with curves, turns and switchbacks along the route, all while keeping the natural environment intact.

The Clifford Perry Boardwalk ascends 16 feet above ground level and is an easy hike up the trail. It's dog-friendly and accessible to both cyclists and pedestrians.

And that's probably one of the best parts of this trail: No major trees were removed, and it even crosses over a stream without disturbing the area. It's evident that the township worked hard to preserve the environment during construction, so you can fully immerse yourself in nature while you stroll.

The multi-level boardwalk is fully dog-friendly, offers gorgeous vantage points in a tranquil setting, and also connects with other local tracks, like the Dave Kerwin Trail and Environmental Park. Think: you'll be surrounded by leafy foliage and the sounds of nature, all while ascending up to 16 feet.

It's also fully accessible, with a stable three-metre wide span, soft five per cent grade, and no steep or rough terrain, so pretty much anyone can wander it without worrying about exertion and exhaustion.

Safety features also include tall railings, an even surface and seamless, gradual curves as you take in the scenery.

Nature enthusiasts were already taking to social media to share their experiences at Clifford Perry Boardwalk immediately after its late June unveiling, writing comments like, "Love it there, and so does our dog!" and "Can’t wait for the fall season colours to set in! It will be majestic."

Those living in the area have been looking forward to the project's completion for years now, with anticipation reaching a fever pitch in recent weeks as crews were spotted adding the final touches before opening.

The trail is located in Newmarket, Ont.
