Major Canadian telecoms named among world's most sustainable companies

Time has released its list of the most sustainable companies in 2025, and several Canadian-based organizations ranked among the top 500.

These companies include Stantec (at the 44th spot), WSP (at #62), Telus (83), CAE (120), CN (155), Lululemon (177), BCE (183), Cogeco (274), CGI (315), Celestica (323), Boralex (329), Gildan (393) and Rogers Communications (402).

Most Canadian communications companies ranked within the top half of the list, with only Rogers falling within the bottom 100. Back in April, Telus announced two new offers that supported reforestation efforts and Earth Day. Telus has also increased the amount of electricity it consumes from renewable sources to 59 per cent. 

Meanwhile, according to its website, Rogers is the first national carrier with net-zero GHG emissions targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative, and plants 100,000 trees per year. And currently, Bell is reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions through the modernization of its fleet, and electric vehicles. It is also planning to reduce the waste sent to landfills by 30 per cent by 2030.

The highest-ranking American telecommunications company was Ciena, sitting 248th with a score of 65.15. T-Mobile and Verizon ranked 304th and 345th, respectively, while AT&T ranked 471st.

However, American chip manufacturer Qualcomm (90) ranked within the top 100, scoring a 72.81. Nvidia also scored relatively high, sitting in 59th with a score of 74.94.
