Bike Share Toronto gets a new app

Bike Share Toronto, the new company that has replaced BIXI, currently lacks its own mobile app to track bike availability and station location. They currently recommend that users try Spotcycle, but there's a new player on the scene that it might make sense to download. While I like Spotcycle, some of its extra annotation-based features might not appeal to users who are only looking for basic information about Bike Share stations.

The simply named Toronto Bikes app, on the other hand, pares down the information to the essentials. Among the features of the app, you can track how many bikes or spaces are available at a given station, the distance and direction to nearest station(s), and use a ride-timer to help avoid late fees. It's free app and based on limited fiddling around, it seems to be fairly reliable. More apps are sure to be on the way, but this one will get you through spring if you're a Bike Share Toronto user.

Toronto Bikes is currently available for iPhones. Android users might want to check out Bike Share Status.
