Toronto Maple Leafs coach reveals massive gash after bizarre injury

Toronto Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube has rocked a few battle scars in his time.

We are talking about a player who has 241 fighting majors at the NHL level, along with over 3,000 penalty minutes.

Those, of course, all happened while he still played in the NHL, but the massive scar the now-60-year-old showed reporters on Friday had a different level of shock value.

After the Toronto Maple Leafs' morning skate on Friday, Craig Berube had a visible shiner around his eye as he met with reporters.

One of the reporters asked him about the shiner, and that's when things took a turn.

"I'll address it because you're going to see it tonight," Berube said. "Just had an accident in the gym...the other guy looks way worse. There was three of them."

After Berube told reporters he was joking, he revealed a scar for the ages.

Berube did confirm that he would still be behind the bench tonight for the Maple Leafs.

He did not confirm if he suffered more severe injuries in any of his 241 career NHL fights, nor would he reveal what actually happened in the gym.

"I'm not going to talk about it," he said. "Nobody needs to know. It's all good."

The Toronto Maple Leafs welcome back Mitch Marner to Scotiabank Centre for the first time on Friday night since he joined the Vegas Golden Knights last summer.
