Toronto Blue Jays announcer Buck Martinez goes on hilarious anti-Yankees rant

Buck Martinez seemed a bit on edge while calling the Toronto Blue Jays game on Wednesday, one which they won in extra innings by a 4-3 final.

Martinez's issue wasn't with the Blue Jays, nor their opponent, the Houston Astros. Instead, he took a swipe at the New York Yankees, who, at the same time, were trailing big to the Detroit Tigers in a game they wound up losing 12-2.

Despite the Yankees being only three games back of the Blue Jays for the top spot in the AL East with an 80-64 record, Martinez made it clear that he doesn't think the Yankees are all that.

"You know, the Yankees, they're not a good team," Martinez said. "I don't care what their record is. They have a lot of wild pitches, they make a lot of mistakes in the field, they don't run the bases very well. If they don't hit home runs, they don't have a chance to win."

The Yankees are averaging 0.58 errors per game this season, which is the 23rd-worst mark of all 30 MLB teams. That said, the Blue Jays aren't far off that number, as their .56 errors per game is 22nd. Nonetheless, many fans in Toronto, and seemingly everybody else who simply isn't a Yankees fan, were having a good laugh over Martinez's tangent, and many even agreed with what he said.

The Blue Jays played a three-game series versus the Yankees over the weekend, winning the first game by a 7-1 final before dropping the next two outings. The two have played a combined 13 games against each other this season, with Toronto winning eight of those games while outscoring the Yankees 70-59.

These comments may, at least partially, stem back to early July, when Yankees announcer Michael Kay suggested that the Blue Jays were not a good team despite leading the AL East.

"The Blue Jays are not a first-place team, I'm sorry," Kay said. "If you look at the run differential, the Yankees' run differential is +105. The Blue Jays, after their 12-5 win, finally got into the positive yesterday, they're +4. Do you realize that they should be a .500 team?"

The Blue Jays now have a run differential of +66, while the Yankees sit at +130.

Unfortunately, these two teams won't play each other again in the regular season, but could very well end up facing one another in the playoffs in a series that would be sure to have plenty of fireworks.
