Why Toronto should check out Mastercard's Indigenous Playmaker Marketplace

Mastercard has a longstanding history of supporting small businesses across Canada, and this winter, they’re shining a spotlight on Indigenous business owners.

In partnership with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the company is transforming a space at Real Sports Apparel into the inaugural Indigenous Playmaker Marketplace, presented by Mastercard.

This dedicated zone will spotlight Indigenous small business owners for the Toronto Maple Leafs' annual Indigenous Celebration Game starting Saturday, Jan 10, 2026.

The marketplace at Real Sports Apparel located in Scotiabank Arena will sell limited-edition merchandise from four Indigenous-owned small businesses.

And it’s not just for game day — until Wednesday, Jan. 21, fans can support the four Indigenous businesses by purchasing authentic, meaningful products created to be sold exclusively at the marketplace.

Meet the Playmakers

Wondering what you can get? Check out the custom tote bag by aaniin, a retailer known for incorporating Indigenous Syllabics into its designs. Meanwhile, FOR4GED Candle Company, which makes hand-poured candles utilizing traditional Haudenosaunee medicines, has made a special-edition candle for the marketplace.

Kokom Scrunchies, an Algonquin mother-daughter business, has created a special edition scrunchie pack. And finally, MINI TIPI continues its mission of addressing the lack of authentic Indigenous designs in the textile industry with a custom blanket for fans.

As for the Indigenous Celebration Game, you don’t want to miss out on the festivities. A massive ceremonial flag designed by Indigenous artist Jennifer Taback will be carried through the stadium by fans to help symbolize unity, respect, and the power of community.

Plus, fans can expect to see a live Indigenous drum circle performance from Smoke Trail Singers on ice, which will transform the arena into a living rhythm of culture and connection.

As a champion of small businesses, The Indigenous Playmaker Marketplace presented by Mastercard is the company's latest expression of commitment to helping small business owners grow, scale, and thrive.
