Red Bull's wild flying machine contest is hitting Toronto and you'll have to see it to believe it

Red Bull is taking its slogan of giving people wiiings to a whole new level in Toronto this fall with an event that is sure to be one-of-a-kind for both participants and viewers.

Residents will be able to catch people literally flying for the first Red Bull Flugtag competition — pronounced floog-tog, the German word for "flying day" — to ever take place in the city at Ontario Place on Sept. 24, and applications for those brave enough to try out their own wings are now open.

A competitor sets sail.

In the long-running annual experience, contestants are able to craft  human-powered flying machines (with the help of Red Bull coaches, of course) and show them off in a demonstration in front of a live audience.

Up to 40 teams will test their skills (and gravity) by taking off from a nine-metre-high flight deck over the water, to be judged based on their design, performance, and flight distance by a panel of local celebs.

Knowing the brand, it is sure to be one heck of a party, with food and drink from local vendors, MCs to hype everyone up, and more.

Anyone interested in applying to the radical contest for their chance at glory can apply online before July 18. Event rules and a handy design manual are also available on the Red Bull site for those looking to prepare for the big day.

Spectators can also follow along on socials via the Red Bull Canada Instagram and Red Bull Canada TikTok.
