Abandoned Toronto property in 'shocking' state was totally rebuilt into stunning $1M home

A beautifully redone Toronto home built by the winners of HGTV's Renovation Resort has just hit the market — and unlike the sprawling cottages they tackled on TV, this one is right in the city.

Located at 4 Mahoney Ave. in the Weston-Mount Dennis neighbourhood, the home was redesigned and rebuilt by Troy and Rotem Lamsee of the award-winning design-build firm (and winners of Renovation Resort Season 1) Ace of Space Interiors.

"The house itself had been abandoned for over five years and was boarded up after being deemed unsafe," Rotem told blogTO, adding that they actually bought the house sight unseen since they weren't able to enter until after closing.

When they finally got inside, Rotem and Troy told blogTO the space was shocking: "[There were] piles of debris everywhere, gaping holes in the roof, and layers of damage from years of neglect."

After a massive renovation, the result is a meticulously crafted, move-in-ready home that balances thoughtful function with timeless style.4 Mahoney Avenue Toronto

At about 1,800 square feet, the living space is fully reimagined from the space that existed before.

The open-concept main floor.

The main floor boasts an open-concept layout that's equal parts cozy and sophisticated, with custom millwork, arched doorways, and built-in storage throughout.

The custom curved range hood acts as a soft architectural focal point in the kitchen.

"We renovated this home exactly as we would our own, making sure it had everything a homeowner could possibly need for comfort, function, and everyday life. No expense was spared, and every design choice came from a place of care and intention," said Rotem.

The fully finished basement adds plenty of bonus space, with eight-foot ceilings, a large bedroom, and a modern three-piece bath, perfect for guests or family.

The backyard.

Out back, a newly built deck with a natural-gas BBQ hookup and tall privacy fence sets the stage for easy outdoor entertaining.

There's also an insulated, heated, and cooled studio, ideal for a home gym, office, or art studio.

Every detail of this home has been updated.

A home office space.

As Troy Lamsee notes, that includes new plumbing, electrical (with 200-amp service and EV rough-in), furnace, air conditioning, roof, insulation, waterproofing, and even new underground water and waste lines.

The dining area.

In other words, it's a century home without the century-old headaches.

Another bathroom.

Listed for $999,000, 4 Mahoney Ave. sits above the typical Weston-Mount Dennis price point (around $750,000), but you'd be hard-pressed to find a home this polished, well-built, and thoughtfully designed anywhere else in the city.

With the new Mount Dennis LRT station, York Recreation Centre, and a host of local shops and cafes, this neighbourhood is only getting hotter.

The back of the house.

Given the craftsmanship — and TV pedigree — behind it, 4 Mahoney Ave. might just be the best bang for your buck in Toronto right now.
