It seems the string of unfortunate events continues to grow for Toronto's Salsa on St. Clair, as the Hillcrest Village BIA has pulled out as a sponsor.
According to a news report, the BIA decided to withdraw its sponsorship of Salsa on St. Clair due to "declining support" for the festival. The decision was confirmed in a letter sent to Telelatino Network, the festival's primary sponsor and main organizer of the event year after year.
The report also states that the board chose to end its sponsorship because members believe the festival has seen declining support from local businesses and the surrounding community.
While the letter does not mention the shooting that occurred at this year's Salsa on St. Clair, speculation may arise that the incident, which claimed the lives of two festival-goers and left five others hospitalized, played a role in the decision.
blogTO reached out to the Salsa on St. Clair team for comment, but had not received a response by the time of publication.
